چکیده

One morning, we were waiting for our college bus. The Wipro industry bus was slowly passing nearby us looking for its employees. At the last moment, when the driver increased speed, one person stepped down from the auto rickshaw and shouted “stop the bus, stop the bus”. Voluntarily, whoever was present started shouting “stop, stop the bus”. The sound finally reached the bus driver who stopped the bus, and the employee could catch it in time. This analog from everyday realistic life simply depicts the spirit of cooperative wireless communication which utilizes the information overheard by neighbouring nodes to offer reliable communication between sender and receiver. Future converged wireless networks are expected to provide high data rate services with extension in coverage area. Also, the next generation networks should possess bandwidth efficiency, less power consumption ability with small sized mobile equipment. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system is the best technique for the provision of communication diversity wherein multiple antennas are installed at the sender and receiver. In today’s miniaturizing electronics era, the hardware implementation of MIMO in the mobile equipment is not feasible due to resource constraints. Cooperative wireless communication (CWC) is the upcoming virtual MIMO technique to combat fading and achieve diversity through user cooperation. Physical layer security (PLS) is the imminent security guarantee for the cooperative communication. Journal of Cyber Security and Mobility, Vol. 1, 227–249. c © 2012 River Publishers. A Comparison between Different Meta-Heuristic Techniques in Power Allocation for Physical Layer Security

Node cooperation can protect wireless networks from eavesdropping by using the physical characteristics of wireless channels rather than cryptographic methods. Allocating the proper amount of power to cooperative nodes is a challenging task. In this paper, we use three cooperative nodes, one as relay to increase throughput at the destination and two friendly jammers to degrade eavesdropper&rsqu...

Physical Layer Security Schemes for Full-Duplex Cooperative Systems: State of the Art and Beyond

Due to the broadcast nature of wireless medium, wireless communication is highly vulnerable to eavesdropping attack. Traditionally, secure wireless data transmission has relied on cryptographic techniques at the network layer which incur high computational power and complexity. As an alternative, physical layer security (PLS) is emerging as a promising paradigm to protect wireless systems by ex...

Topology Control and Hop-by-hop Authentication in MANETs with Cooperative Communications

Cooperative communications can significantly enhance transmission reliability and bandwidth efficiency in wireless networks. However, the impact of cooperative communications on network-level upper layer issues, such as topology control, routing and network capacity, is largely ignored. At the same time, security is an important issue in MANETs and existing security schemes have significant imp...
